EGS is pioneering incisionless natural orifice surgery (NOS), the future of surgery
EGS leverages the most current wisdom in gastroenterology and surgery in developing new transoral incisionless procedures and products to advance the state of the art in treating gastrointestinal diseases.
Our first two products, EsophyX and StomaphyX, are based on EGS’ proprietary NOS (Natural Orifice Surgery) platform technology. Designed specially for performing incisionless reconstructive gastrointestinal procedures, the devices are introduced into the body through the mouth, rather than through an abdominal incision. The advantages of incisionless surgery over laparoscopic or open surgery include shorter hospital stay, reduced patient discomfort, shortened patient recovery, no visible scars, and typically higher patient satisfaction.
The revolutionary TIF (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) procedure, made possible through the use of the EsophyX device, effectively treats the cause of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), also known as chronic acid reflux disease. The procedure reconstructs the antireflux barrier at the gastroesophageal junction, restoring the patient’s natural anatomical geometry. A minutely invasive procedure, TIF emulates the invasive gold-standard laparoscopic or open procedure used to treat chronic acid reflux disease.
The innovative StomaphyX device is used in transoral tissue approximation and ligation in the GI tract. Without any external incisions or internal dissection, StomaphyX creates durable, full thickness tissue folds, or plications.
EGS is committed to innovation in understanding and anticipating the needs of our users, who are among world’s elite surgeons in the field of advanced minimally invasive surgery for treating upper GI conditions. We are also committed to developing, marketing and selling clinically safe and effective state-of-the-art surgical products and techniques supported by an ongoing clinical investigation program. In addition to the clinical research already completed, two randomized controlled multicenter studies are currently underway with EsophyX and StomaphyX.
